Final Blow

A bit of bad news, on Wednesday Rosie went in for a joint tap and the vets x-rays made him diagnose a probable spinal problem meaning that she can not do agility any more. Its for best really coos at the paws agility show last week she started off alright and from the second round in she was already running under some of the jumps.

A Bit of Bad News

For the last few months or so Rosie hasn't really been herself. She has run under jumps, jumped off the see-saw and alround has been a bit of a nuisance at competitions. Last Wednesday she went for a scan and we have found out that she has arthritis in both elbows. She has actually even started to grow new bone in the elbow area which is causing her a lot of pain. Being four years old, she is much too young for it and imagining what she could be like in 6 or so years compared to now i wouldnt be surprised if she couldn't walk. She is on metacam and a treatment called "easyflex" which is a type of chew that is meant to be irresistably tasty but being Rosie she doesn't like it and wont take a bite. What a nightmare!!!
Were hoping that something can be done surgically but for where it is and Rosie's size i imagine it could be tricky. Being Rosie she hasn't noticed and has just been full of energy because she doesnt get her usual 2 walks a day.
Anyway were gonna give her a months rest and see how she is in a few weeks time.

Agility Show 11/7/09 (GSD)

Rosie was a bit of a nightmare in the morning of the show, probably because i have not had much time with her recently. In the agility she somehow managed to get all her contacts, crikey! but managed to capitalise on that by getting eliminated on the weaves which she decided that she didnt want to do. In the next round which i believe was power and speed she got eliminated before we had even touched an obstacle by running past the dog walk and getting a refusal. Well done Rosie you managed to go beyond the impossible. It didnt matter anyway coos she decided that the contacts were no match for her and just to cap it all off she needed the loo just as we were entering the weaves. After i had cleaned that up i decided we might as well get something out of it and we managed to run the speed part, which was quite tricky and did absolutely brilliantly. Grr cheeky little thing. Next came jumping which Rosie is usually good at .... I was wrong she did the jumps well but it only took thirteen attempts ( i counted) to get her to weave properly. Another ELIMINATION. Thank God lunch was after that, compliments to the chef Louise. After a bacon roll and some raspberries and cream it was the steeplechase and Rosie's only chance to bring something home. I even to make sure Rosie didnt run under the jumps or think of someway to humiliate us ran slow enough so that i could keep an eye on her. HOORAY! she did it and out of about 17 dogs, in which 12 got clear rounds she managed to come 5th, which was extremely pleasing. Im definately gonna have to work on her weaves and contacts for the next show if i want to reach my aim of moving up into the novice classes within the next two Jersey competitions.

Overview of the beast that is Rosie Pocket Rocket

To start of im Frankie, im 14 and am a big animal lover which is inherited of my sister and hope to soon make my dream of becoming a vet a reality. Enough about me, Rosie is a yappy little Jack Russel that is almost 4 years of age. She is owned by my sister (or vice- versa i really dont know) but has always had a great relationship with me. My sister, who is a veterinary nurse acquired her when she was only 6 weeks because her litter was in the vets with a sickness not to dis-similiar to parvo virus. Rosie was the smallest of the survivors in her litter and usually has something weird going on with her. At the age of one she had her right hip removed because of hip displaysia and has ever since had problems with other parts. Poor Rosie has never been the best listener and she can sometimes be a bit of a pain to train. She also thinks she is an alsatian and is already cat sherriff at my Sisters home doing a good job to stop the mischief of the 3 fanatic felines. About two years ago i started training Rosie at agility, we haven't done too badly in our first year but living in Jersey where the shows are quite small makes you really want and go and try your luck in England. Im hoping to go next year.
